Hybrid Cable Solution for Hydro Power Plant

Project Overview: Our customer was looking for a robust and innovative cabling solution for its hydroelectric power plant. The cable needs to be installed in submerged in water inside the penstock, the conduit connecting the dam and the power station.

Our Solution: This unique application demanded a cable capable of withstanding both water exposure and significant mechanical stress and therefore the accepted proposal was to build up a hybrid cable 4x2x1+4G16+8x1.5, specifically engineered to combine power supply, control, and signal transmission, with:

  • Double Polyethylene Layer: A key feature of the cable is its double layer of polyethylene insulation, which provides superior protection against moisture and environmental factors.
  • Steel Wire Armour (SWA): The inclusion of SWA adds an extra layer of mechanical protection, making the cable highly resistant to external forces and stresses. This ensures durability in challenging environments.
