The main scope of the shield is to reduce or eliminate possible interference, which could be:

Interferences generated inside the cables, in particular between cable elements (pairs, triples ...)
Interference from external enviroment

Special Protections

The moisture barrier resistance is composed by layers of aluminum tape, HDPE sheathing, and polyamide sheathing. The result is an excellent barrier against the penetration of liquids and chemicals.In many cases it is used as an alternative to lead.

While the lead sheath prevents penetration of moisture, aggressive chemical agents and hydrocarbons. Compared to AL/HDPE/PA, lead is much more expensive and makes the cable heavier and less flexible.
